Happy Saint Pattrick,s Day

Saint Patrick (not just a holiday for green beer and corned beef and hash)

N started working from home today, so we took turns with kid corralling. He had the morning and I did more in the afternoon. Breakfast was, of course, green Lucky Charms that turn your milk (and likely other things) green. We all tried to dress in green - I made it into pants I haven't worn in a few years!

The morning was a success! Boys cleaned their rooms and the living room floor so the Roomba could run without picking up their LEGOs. Next was coloring time using pictures we print off the internet. From there, we entered "learning time". I hate that we are doing Moby Max, in addition to already increased screen time, but this is what we have for now. My awesome coworker also sent St. Patrick's Day packet of math and letters for early elementary. That was super helpful and M even helped L with it!

Reading Time. This was one of the quietest parts of the day, by far! Both boys read for 30 minutes. Silently. I was worried something happened. L is not really reading yet, but he looked at a book of vehicles. Twice. Whatever works.

Second Quietest Time - Cincinnati Zoo Home Safari. Today was Rico the Brazilian Porcupine and M & L were in love! Not only that, they raised $12.6K during the event! I sent a note to the MN Zoo suggesting they could raise some funds that way. We'll see what they respond.

Chalk Greetings

I saw someone post about writing chalk notes on your neighbor's driveways. After a short trip to the park, we grabbed some chalk and headed to a few neighbors' houses. Yes, apparently it's spelled "Saint Pattrick,s Day" - two Ts and a comma. But how adorable is that!?! I didn't have the heart to correct him. 💗💗💗 L hoped they wouldn't be mad that we wrote on their driveways. I hope we don't have any Grinches in our neighborhood!

Mommy Time

I am finding that time for myself or N and me is trickier. I am having to work later into the evening to make up for interrupted time. And my plan to work out over my lunch is yet to come to fruition. Tonight it happened at 10:00 pm. Even though we are together the entire day, I feel like N and I have even less time together, as I am trying to plan the next day.

Moms, what are you doing to stay sane? I'm writing this chronicle of our experiences and trying to clean up one area of our house each day. Today was the kitchen counter. A lot to be done in the cupboards themselves, but at least they are hidden for now. Any suggestions to find quality time?

The Protection of the Theotokos

The Cathedral's Patronal Feast St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral - at the start of Vespers (courtesy Fr. Benjamin Tucci) Tonight was just what I needed - a calming evening in church with the boys to celebrate the Protection of the Theotokos. "Calming" and "with the boys" don't often go together, but tonight they were both so well behaved and the singing was a balm for the soul. M decided he was going to stand the entire service. I told him he could sit during the Old Testament readings, but he refused and stood the entire time. L worked on crossing himself correctly and pointed out each of the plagues on the Egyptians in his Children's Bible.  Throughout the chaos of the world today, I just wanted to go to church. Yes, it was our feast, but something just drew me this evening. As we were driving down, we could see the storms rolling in with the lightning streaking across the sky. The first drops began as we raced into church. Once we settled in, a peacef

Sunday of the Cross

Sunday of the Cross "O Lord, save Thy people, and bless Thine inheritance! Grant victory to the Orthodox Christians over their adversaries, And by virtue of Thy cross, preserve Thy habitation!" ~Troparion for the Cross  I was honored to be asked to participate in the "skeleton crew" for Matins & Liturgy at St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral this morning, which was streamed on YouTube for all the faithful. We were allowed to have no more than 10 people at Liturgy and we had exactly that; but we prayed for every person who sent their names in - the living and the departed.  When we arrived at the Great Doxology with the Cross brought out and we began singing "O Lord, Save Thy People", I almost broke down. The Orthodox Fight Song. Grant victory to the health care workers who are saving lives; to researchers and scientists who are searching for a vaccine and cure; to volunteers who are making masks, bringing food to shut-ins, helping
