First Day of Home School
We have survived the First Day of Homeschool 2020! Copying our friends (and everyone else), we took First Day photos. Not like I had about 20 other things I could do with my time this morning, but how cute would the scrapbook spread look with this photo? It might have been better if their PJs were still on, but we are aiming for getting clothes on each day. Not sure how much longer I can hold out attempting a haircut. 😂
M & L are set up on the porch behind me so that I can help quickly with any questions. Their location is just off the screen from my webcam, so they won't interrupt my video conferences. I hope...
The morning started off strong with us getting logged in a little after 9 am. M was set with his Morning Work and Everyday Math. Unfortunately, not long after we began, the Seesaw app and Schoology went down. Guess they needed to pressure test the stability a bit more. Fortunately, Mrs. P sent us an email with the details and it was time for a break anyway. Checking in with church friends on Little Hermits with Fr. Ben. We had a Morning Meeting board and tentative schedule, which we pretty well stuck to.
The Challenges
In general, we were pretty pleased with how things turned out for the day. But any new adventure has its challenges. Definitely not challenges like "Tiger King" or other reality shows, but hiccups like:
- Apps not working, causing a delay in starting work.
- Meetings interrupting explaining school.
- School lessons interrupting work that needed to be done.
- Google Earth distractions on the iPad, causing tears and timeouts.
- Assistance needed finding the exact piece needed for LEGO creations being rebuilt.
- No potatoes to make mashed potatoes to go with the turkey we thawed in order to make more room in our freezer.
Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
To quote Mr. Rogers, despite the shelter-in-place orders, it truly was "a beautiful day in the neighborhood"! The boys spent a good half hour outside bouncing on the trampoline and saying hello to other neighbors bouncing in their own yards. We said hello to neighbors we know well, and others we haven't talked to down the way. The weather was gorgeous! We opened the windows a bit and headed out at the end of the afternoon to play some baseball and do some more of our Phys Ed activity. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! If we have to be stuck at home, at least weather like this makes it a bit more bearable.
All in all, a good first day. Only 34 more days until May the 4th!
